The Chateau is a digital project recording studio located on Chicago's near-northwest side, run by Brian J Sulpizio. (Former partner Nicholas Morrison has relocated to Boston to pursue a Master's degree in guitar improvisation.) It was started in the Garfield Park neighborhood of Chicago in 2004 and has been operating at its current location in Humboldt Park since September of 2006. Brian has been working with a variety of digital recording and mixing techniques since 2002. The Chateau is a one-room studio with an incorporated control space. Tracking and mixing occur in the same space, and sound treatment has been carefully placed throughout the room to create appropriate environments both for mixing and for tracking a variety of sources. The treatment of the space allows for the capture of natural reverb which can make artificial reverb unnecessary. The vast majority of mixing is done in the computer; a great deal of overhead costs are avoided by providing an outstanding front end while omitting such amenities as outboard processors and effects, and a central console. The Chateau is also a home, with bathroom and kitchen, housing three persons in platonic relationships with one another. I am now pleased to offer mobile recording, as well as self-service recording! Please see the rates section for more info. **I will also be engineering at the Harold Arts Residency this summer from July 5-16, 2010. This is a great opportunity to work on your craft and your material while getting complimentary tracking time in an excellent new studio being built in a converted pool house. Aside from the gear I will be bringing, perqs include Lynx Aurora converters, a very spacious tracking area, and an isolation booth. You will have the opportunity to take your tracks with you for mixing or to have them mixed at The Chateau. Other engineers over the summer include Ben Carver of Studiomedia Recording and Nori Tanaka. The deadline for applications is May 15 and applicants will be notified of their acceptance by May 31. Both individual artists and bands are welcome, as well as artists working in other media. Thanks! -03.2010 |
